    Description

    U.S. m1878 136th regiment field artillery canteen.  On the canteen is number 56 which  was the assignment number for the solider.  The strap is unique as it is a 'Y' shaped folded webbing strap with a hook to attach to cartridge belts or rings on saddles.  The web material of the strap is marked 'R.I.A. 1904 (Rock Island Arsenal).  The cork has a ring attached for attaching to other soldier items.  The canteen has a canvas cover with stitching all around.  It is marked with an 'X' which represents crossed rifles.  The middle of the marked 'X' is a mark of '136' and the canteen is also marked '56' on both sides.  The canteen itself is metal.  The canteen measures approx 8X8" round diameter.  All items are sold as is.
