    Although this coin is, indeed solid gold, I believe the date is correct and that it was one of the proof-like coins produced after the private minting of U.S. Coinage was made illegal by the Coinage Act of April 22, 1864. The enforcement of this law began around 1883.
    About the size of a small child's thumb nail, it weighs in at .40 grams.
