    his custom
    made diamond
    reamer has been specifically designed
to conform to the ideal inner dimensions of a bassoon reed, and functions as the
perfect "finishing reamer" for your reeds.  At times, even the best spiral reamers can leave the inside of your nearly finished reed looking like it had been worked on with a chainsaw.  This can not only cause acoustical problems, but can create air leakage, and over time, become a breeding ground for bacteria and plaque.
The coating on this reamer is actual diamond...not DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) used by other manufacturers and used on the inexpensive files you see at big box stores and from other supply houses.
A diamond reamer, with a medium-fine actual diamond grit, like the one listed here, will smooth the often neglected throat area of your reed. Used properly, it will create a perfectly smooth inner surface and taper from the bocal tip up to the top wire.   Another HUGE advantage of a diamond reamer is that it can be used on the reed wet or dry.  This can be a lifesaver when you get to a performance and your reed is dry, and then, after normal soaking, you suddenly find that it is leaking air!  This is quite a common problem with newer reeds.
The machining of the reamer pin and the diamond coating was done here in the USA by a company that normally supplies large diamond coated drill bits for the natural gas well industry.  As the parent of one of my former students and an amateur musician
himself, the owner of this company agreed to take on this project for me.
If you look at picture #3 above, you will see that the overall size of this reamer is exactly the same as the wonderful RIEGER reamer.  It will easily fit in your bassoon case.
However, the cost of this reamer is over half what the big three bassoon supply houses are asking for their RIEGER reamers.  I can do this because the owner of the machining company gave me a great price, and also, there is no middleman in all of this. I am a self-admitted bassoon geek, retired teacher, and sole proprietor of this bassoon specialty business.  Thus, I can keep my costs WAY down.
There is are 5 wood options to from which to choose. I lathe all my handles myself in my workshop, so each one is custom made and one of a kind. Look carefully at picture #1 and when placing your order, and then attach a note within your PayPal transaction page with your wood handle choice.  Better yet, send me a separate note by using eBay's "Contact Seller" option, which can be found in my feedback page.
Flat rate shipping will be .95 domestic
Finally, if you buy this, or any other tool, I can ship any cane order you place for no additional cost in shipping.
    International buyers always welcome
    .
