Description

This custom made diamond reamer set comes in two grits (medium & fine) for tapering and smoothing out the tube area of a bassoon reed. The taper on each interchangeable reamer has been specifically designed to conform to the ideal inner dimensions of a bassoon reed, and functions as the perfect "finishing reamer" for your reeds.  At times, even the best spiral reamers can leave the inside of your nearly finished reed extremely rough and uneven.  This can not only cause acoustical problems, but can create air leakage, and over time, become a breeding ground for bacteria and plaque.
Each set comes with a Quick Release handle for seamless changing out of the 2 reamers. The body of the handle is made from locally harvested
NATURAL CHERRY
wood.
Additionally, the set comes with a matching NATURAL CHERRY magnetc base holder for the handle, and two holes custom drilled for easy storage and access to the reamer tips.
The coating on this reamer is actual diamond...not DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) used by other manufactures and used on the inexpensive files you see at big box stores and from other supply houses.
Diamond reamers smooth the often neglected throat area of your reed. Used properly, it will create a perfectly smooth inner surface and taper from the bocal tip up to the top wire.   Another HUGE advantage of a diamond reamer is that it can be used on the reed wet or dry.  This can be a life saver when you get to a performance and your reed is dry, and then, after normal soaking, you suddenly find that it is leaking air!  This is quite a common problem with newer reeds.
The taper on this reamer is identical to the wonderful RIEGER diamond reamers. However, the cost of this reamer is over half what the big three bassoon supply houses are asking for their RIEGER reamers. Plus here....you get TWO reamers instead of just one.  I
