This is a carnelian and onyx necklace with a flower pendant. The necklace has sterling silver beads and well as a sterling silver closure. The metal on the flower pendant is not sterling silver. The necklace is approximately 19 1/2 " long.
Black onyx is the anniversary gemstone for the 7th year of marriage. It is the birthstone for the Leo Zodiac sign.
Onyx is a variety of silicate mineral chalcedony. It is in the group of quartz. It chemical composition is silicon dioxide with carbon and iron with a hardness of 6.6 to 7.
It is found in Canada, Mexico, Russia, India and Brazil.
Black onyx is sought after for its metaphysical properties.
Its name originated from the Greek word onux which means fingernail or claw. It has been used throughout history in ornaments, jewelry and carvings especially in cameos by the ancient Greeks and Romans.

Although carnelian is a robust gemstone don't wear or store together with harder gemstones to prevent scratching. Ideally store separately and wrap in tissue paper. Do not clean with harsh chemicals. Wipe with a soft cloth. Remove jewelry prior to doing household chores, exercising or swimming. Avoid exposure to intense heat.
